The first homes built in the area were high-raised houses, which is a trend that's coming back due to Hurricane Katrina. This helped with the fear of flooding when the neighborhood was first established.

After Hurricane Katrina, Broadmoor was almost turned into parkland. However, residents were not happy about this plan. Instead, many homes have been raised to help protect them from flooding.
